So sad to hear of Alf’s passing. My deepest sympathies to Sharon and Alf’s extended family. He was a lovely human being.

Warm memories of Sharon’s birthday party a few years back which was fancy dress. Alf got so into his part that I genuinely did not recognise the odd individual who opened the door . . . so complete was he with odd mannerisms, strange voice, peculiar accent. Took a full 20 minutes for me to recognise him.

He will be very much missed. May he rest in peace.

My deepest and most sincere sympathies to Ruth and Sarah and extended family on the very sad passing of your beloved Dad, Alf.

What can be said about "The Voice of Radio" that hasn't been said already? Not a lot I suspect given every person will have their own memories of Corkabout and Late Date and those soft dulcet tones putting you at ease and calming your every fear.

Ruth and Sarah, I can never thank you enough for your Dad for without him and his career on radio, I simply would not be here today. It's a long story for another day but a story I shared with Alf a few short years ago when we met. Presenting his show on Corkabout on March 1st 1993, he read out a dedication that a listener had sent in for my birthday and he played Matt Monro, The Impossible Dream which I listened to there and then and that song gave me courage to live and not leave the following day.

And to Sharon, you touched his soul as he did yours.

May the gentle soul of Alf McCarthy rest in peace and until me meet again, May the road rise to meet you.
— Lumia McGann (Darragh), Cobh
