Benny I always thought that I'd see you again! What a kind gentle but slightly bewildering soul you were. It was always a pleasure to work and to chat with you . What a craic wont say too much 🤣 ,best dinner parties, may your soul find peace my friend. Sincere condolences to your loved ones. You shall be missed .
— Anne Lysaght, Charleville Co Cork
I enjoyed Benet's company enormously back in the 80s. As with so many people we lose touch and drift apart. I remember our little trip to Arbor Low stone circle in Derbyshire after a Glastonbury and waiting for the solstice sunrise. Benet was cosy under the duvet we were all huddled under and woke up at about 11am asking if it had happened yet. Happy times. I'd hoped he'd found his niche cheffing in Ireland and would live to a ripe old age :(
— Siward James-Moore
I worked with Benet for a summer in the Clifden boat club with Lukas and a few other teenagers. Benet always laughed, joked and taught me how to better. I'll miss him, he helped me a lot.
— Paul Fahy
A range of sad, poignant and funny memories of Benet have surfaced in the last week, but i think my most favourite of all, is when a tribe of us travelled down from Leeds to Stonehenge in 1988; Sat around a fire in Cholderton Woods, having a sing song, I remember Benet loudly belting out 'This Land Is Our Land' the famous protest song, courtesy of Woody Guthrie. Must have been the shortly before the police helicopters evicted the thousands upon thousands of us! Your spirit, Benet, is never forgotten!

I hope to be able to join on Monday but connectivity issues may stop me. In that case I'll just add myself to those sending condolences. How sad that Benet died this way. It's been nearly 10 years since I saw him and we seemed divided by physical distance as well as the choices we made (I haven't had alcohol in nearly 20 years, and it caused the deaths of both my parents) so it's poignant to hear Benet was healthier and drier not so long ago. It seems access to primary healthcare was difficult for him, as for so many of us these days. I hope he gets a good send-off on Monday. Goodbye.
