May their loving guidance and memory always be a gift to you.

Susan, Jane, Louise, Mark & Gillian, am so sorry for the loss of the giant of a man that was your Dad and my Uncle Dan. A man who was always not only tall in stature but stood tall and wise always in whatever room he walked into. He was a man we all looked up to, both metaphorically and literally. Me being little Mary his niece, to his older, but much smaller only sister Mary! Always a tall, strong, wise and reassuring presence, not only to my Mum, but to all of us. He loved words, and music and poetry, but quietly, a man with a soft, gentle quip. He had smarts for days. And oh, what a legacy he has left behind. How lucky you all are as his children with his beloved wife, your mum and our Auntie Marie. How lucky we all were to have him in our lives. On behalf of my Mum, his sister Mary, we will miss him. But tall far away, near up close, we will never forget him. x

As a child, I looked forward to the visits from uncle Dan and aunt Marie. Dan always had a commanding presence. When he spoke, people listened. Yet he always had a word to say to the small people. He would ask us about school and listen to our answers.
When we grew older I noticed how intelligent he was. He would ask a question to my husband about business, but by daid, he knew his stuff.
What inspired me most about uncle Dan were two things. The way he looked after his wife in her later years. And how he prayed for his family every day. He was a lovely man, a strong man and a Godly man. There may not be many more like him.

So Uncle Dan - safe travels on the way up. And may we meet again, where "He will wipe away the tears from their eyes. There will be no more death, no more grief or crying or pain".
— Sarah Standen

To all of Dans family especially, I am so sorry for the loss of Dan.

Some of my best memories of uncle Dan include, his big warm smile as he entered the room. Dan was so eloquent in his words and his personality lit up whatever room he was in.
When I was a little boy I remember Dan and my dad Going bird hunting together in or around caherlistrane county Galway.
I also recall the lovely blue and white football cake, provided for as part of my confirmation gift.
During my first holy communion I forgot the words to a party piece poem and Dan took over with an hilarious closing to save the day.

I also recall looking out for reassurance during my communion service and Dan gave an affirming smile to put my mind at rest and ease my nerves.

Dan attended my wedding day with crystal.

Dan always made time for special moments and I am very grateful for all the many visits he made to our family home.
My final memory of Dan was eating lunch at the goats inn with himself and my father, Peter.
During that meal, Dan looked at me with a particular gaze and He told me that it was great to get to know me.

Somehow my gut told me that this would be our last time meeting and It was.

The best thing of all about Dan, is that he never lost his faith in God our saviour.
Dan, may you be guided into the loving arms of Jesus as you enter into eternity in paradise.
I love you uncle Dan. Please pray for us when you get there.

John Corcoran.

Susan, Jane, Louise, Mark, Gillian and extended family, we wish to sincerely sympathise with you all on the decease of Dan. His death concludes a friendship of almost three decades. Over those years we met frequently and had countless conversations on several topics; the fate of the Corcoran tribe following the Plantations and the Cromwellian Settlement, ancestral connections with the Fenians, the War of Independence, his early years in Bishop Street, Tuam and life in Jarlath's in the 1940s. Dan's interests were wide and varied. To the near end he enjoyed a chat and was up to date on the GAA fortunes of his native county. It was my privilege to have been his friend. May he now rest in Peace and, united with his beloved Marie, may he enjoy his games on the sunny fields of Paradise with his former friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

So very sad to hear of Dan's passing. I joined Hibernian in Mullingar in 1961 and was very fortunate to have Dan as my boss. Dan was extremely knowledgeable not only on insurance matters but on business matters generally all of which he readily passed on. Dan was great company inside and outside the office. The Hibernian profited from his managerial skills. My sincere sympathy to all his family.
