Sincere condolences to Dermot's family on his passing. We only got to know Dermot in recent years through the Tolka Branch outings, but he was a fantastic leader for the branch and his enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge will be greatly missed by all.
— Declan & Lucas
My deepest condolences and sympathy to Darragh, Brid, Helen, Harry and all the McCabe family on the very sad loss of Dermot. He was a true gentleman who was very generous with his time and knowledge with everyone about birds, nature, countries, food and wine etc., organising birdwatching talks and birdwatching trips around Ireland and the world, and helping us all on those trips. It was an honour and a privilege to have met him and he will be sadly missed, but he will also be very fondly remembered. Rest In Peace, Dermot.

Sincere condolences to Dermot's family on his sad passing. Dermot was, as others have already, said a true gentleman. A man with a depth of knowledge on many topics. We met him through birdwatching where he unselfishly shared that knowledge with all. We are sad to hear of his passing, but feel privileged to have had the opportunity to spend time in his most engaging company.

I wish to convey my deepest sympathy to Dermot's family & all his Birding pals from the Tolka Branch & Gambia.
Unfortunately due to being out of the loop for several years, I was sadly unaware he was ill. I have some great memories of all the wonderful Saturday outings. He had an immense knowledge & expertise on not just the Ornithological element, but also a great interest in Bats & Botany. I can recall him picking wild garlic & chewing on it as we all walked around Churchtown in Wexford. I have some lovey photos of him laughing his head off during my garden party , quite possibly at my expense , knowing his humour. RIP Dermot.

It is with great sadness that l hear of the passing of Dermot. As a more recent member of the Tolka Branch of Birdwatch lreland Dermot was most welcoming to me, always generous to me with transportation on outhings, imparting his vast knowledge of ornithology and his dry wit, it was a pleasure for me to be in his company. He will be a huge loss to the Tolka Branch and l will miss him greatly. May he rest in peace.
