Have known Lena RIP for more years than I can remember. Only 60 years in Ky last year. She was a big sister with wisdom she shared. A tonic in the Staff Room while keeping us on our toes. It was a real honour to know this warm kind and friendly human being. Thank you Lena. May you rest in God'arms.

Very sad to hear of Lena's death. She was a lovely lady and a great pal of my mother Mary (Wallie) Healy (nee Murphy) RIP, fellow teacher in Kylemore. They had great fun together. My condolences to the family.

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Lena - as she was fondly called in our home. I am writing this on behalf of my Mother Bríd Mannion known locally as Buddy Kelly. They were great great friends and shared many lovely moments over the years reflecting on their lives as teachers, musicians and friends.
I am grateful for getting the chance to visit Lena on a number of occasions recently and to see that their friendship never waned.

Good memories of “Miss O’Toole” in Kylemore Abbey. She taught us History, Irish, Commerce & Singing. She was our best teacher by far and what I always admired was there was no two tier system of boarder versus day pupil for her which was quite rare at the time- circa late 1960s/early 70s.

I was an Irish-American at Kylemore from 1964-1966. Miss O’Toole changed my life. She made me feel valuable, all because I could sing. She heard something special. I became an opera singer. I thanked her in 2003 when I flew over to conduct the Kylemore choir. She said, “I didn’t do anything.” Oh yes Ms O’Toole. You heard me. You did everything.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Lena miss o toole we new her as when she taught in kylemore abbey .many years ago a wonderful teacher made every thing so simple SIncere sympathy to her nieces. And nephews rspecially Margret who looked after so well May she have the happiness of heaven now along with her dear sister dame Mary and all who have gone before her 🙏🏻🙏🏻🌹 Maureen nee nee .
