My deepest sympathies and condolence to all his family and friends.
I have the pleasure and Privilege of meeting him in nineteen seventy six,
When i started my first job in James Healey's and Sons in Pearse street,
Hugie had the misfortune of having to learn me the Job, Hugh was always a true gentleman and a gentle soul too, his story telling was second to none and he had a great ability to make cat laugh with the way he could tell a story, having to show me how to that Particularly job would not have been easy. never once did he lose his patience with me.God only knows how he didn't,
He was a person that knew many different hardships and yet he never lost ability to help others less Fortunately then himself,
He loved his cigarettes and his football team was Wolverhampton.
His laughter was indeed Infectious
And he could and did make the most Difficult job look easy to do .
He was responsible for the high finish
On the the Brass work in the Basilica
In Knock( Mayo )
He was a gentleman to me in the four years we worked alongside each other.
I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing a week after his funeral,
He was indeed a gentleman I was Blessed to have known in the start of my working life .
May his gentle soul Rest in Peace.

,
— Charles O'Callaghan..
