My sincere condolences to Michael’s family and friends on his sad passing. He had a lifelong commitment to the trade union movement and represented his members with great zeal. Even in his retirement he continued to look after the welfare of his retired members. I remember his passionate and very witty contributions at Labour party conferences during the 1980s and 1980s. He will be remembered especially for his humour. He was a proud Tuam and Galway man. May he rest in peace.
