The death has occurred of

Colum McCABE

Booterstown, Dublin / Ballybay, Monaghan

McCABE, Colum (Booterstown Co. Dublin and late of Ballybay, Co. Monaghan) December 21st  2020. (peacefully) at home. He is sadly missed by his loving wife of 64 years, Dr. Patricia (Patsy) McCabe and their children Michael, Jeremy, Andrew and Helen and  grandchildren.  Also missed by his daughters-in-law Pam and Bridgie and close family members, Catherine, Sam, Isa, Charles, as well as Helga, Evelyn and the extended family and friends. Born in Ballybay Co. Monaghan, he lived there and in Cootehill, Co. Cavan. Educated by the Christian Brothers in Monaghan, he qualified as an engineer at UCD. Colum was one of six brothers from Ballybay who qualified as mechanical and electrical engineers, (the late Colum, Gerry, Jim and Vincent) as well as Joe and Frank.

 

He spent most of his career with the ESB, including time in the Middle East establishing the organisation which later became ESB International. Subsequently he became Chief Executive of Dublin Gas. A keen sportsman he played handball when younger and spent many years on the golf course at Milltown Golf Club. This autumn he was still playing at Milltown. He was very proud of his grandchildren, Christopher, Olivia, Nicola, Killian, Maedhbh and Nora and their achievements. He was an inspirational man.  Those who knew him will never forget him.
