I was so sorry to hear of Tony’s passing.
My deepest sympathy to his loved ones.
I worked in RTE costume department from 2003- 2009 with Tony as my Manager. He was the best Manager I ever had.
I was usually on the early shift in the main wardrobe department and often felt I was not great company for Tony as he often came in to work and always wanted to talk about the football match he watched night before.
I even went as far as to ask Bill O’H and the other football commentators for a few ‘Key Phrases’ I could inject into the conversation about football… didn’t work.. that’s okay he knew he would get his fix chatting to Arthur and Gerry at tea break.
We often say Tony managed the department like a football team…we all played our part, we were all key players. He gave everyone an important role and supported us in our work. we were well organised and managed department- it was a pleasure to work there.
Tony was so kind to all of us, he was especially brilliantly kind when I lost my mother and needed time to go back to Cananda. Tony is the kind of good that will be dearly missed.
Deepest condolences,
Tara
— Tara Knol
I first met Tony Murphy when I was a young researcher working in RTÉ and have never forgotten his kindness and professionalism. His attention to detail was second to none and he ran the department with panache and generosity. He woudn't let anyone out of Wardrobe without looking perfect and one time even provided me with a gleaming white shirt for a producer interview when I returned last minute from a foreign documentary shoot. He always maintained the shirt was the reason I got the job! Tony Murphy was one in a million and my heartfelt condolences go to his beloved family.
