I had Colm as one of my teachers in inchicore 2 years ago, he was such a bright and loving soul, he loved teaching and knew everything, he had a remarkable gift for explaining things in such thoughtful and inspiring ways. Colm was truly a great man who positively impacted so many lives, including mine he is one of those rare teachers you never forget and his legacy will live on through the countless people he inspired and taught.

Much sympathy to all of Colm's family and many friends. His passing has left the world a poorer place. He was always so thoughtful and kind, and had a genuine interest in other people. I particularly appreciated his gentle support at a time of bereavement. This was typical of him. He was perceptive, and naturally desired to help when he could. He brightened the staff room with his cheerful humour. He'll be deeply missed by all who knew him for a long time to come.

I was a student at Inchicore college where I was taught by Colm. At that time I was really struggling with course work and my health. I have just found out about Colm's passing, and I am so sad to hear this news. I would like to extend my condolences to all his family and friends. We studied together in the 80's in UCD, and we both joined Dramsoc, where many a lecture was missed due to meetings, rehearsals and productions. I was glad he went on to teach and lecture, and pass on his knowledge and love of drama and performance to future creatives. We didn't really get to see each other after college so much, but it was so lovely knowing him in college.

I haven’t been able to find the words over the last few days. Colm, you caused a lot of ripples and there are years left in them, there’s a little of your wit and wisdom alive in almost every theatre and theatre company on the island.

I am so very saddened to hear of Colm's passing. Worked with him many years ago in Marino College. And met him again recently again at CDETB Student Council events. Colm was truly loved by all here in the Inchicore College community and we are filled with grief and sadness as we try to come to terms with his passing. We will hold our dear friend and colleague forever in our hearts. May he rest in peace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

It was a privilege to have been offered a place on Colm's course in Stagecraft in Inchicore College in 1990s. For those of us unfamiliar with theatre, under his charge we learned about Bertolt Brecht, Shakespeare, Brian Friel and many many others. Not only about the writers but how such work may be brought to life by sound, lighting and construction design.

Ideas for his sets were novel to say the least, all performed in the auditorium and stage of Inchicore College. 1991's production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night (set in the round) and 1992's Romeo and Juliet (with its tall looming doors) are examples of set designs of a difference. Friel's Dancing at Lughnasa is an example of a more traditional Donegal 1950s setting (1992).

His practical workshops on various types of lighting (fresnels, redheads, par cans, strobes and rotating lights) showed what theatre was really capable of. And other staff who specialised in teaching actors complemented all this and ensured work staged allowed representation of male and female actors inequal measure.

It was with shock and disbelief I heard of Colm's sudden passing. He was sound, cheerful, pleasant - a really nice guy. I partnered Colm for awhile in bridge which always exciting. He will be missed by all who knew him. My sincere condolences.

Colm was a lively and stimulating bridge partner, always willing to share insights and to forgive minor and major transgressions (though maybe not the no-trump ones!). A man with a great sense of fun, and whose presence and daring would always light up a bridge table. A unique character who will be sorely missed by his many friends in the bridge world and beyond.

I'm so proud to have worked with Colm. He taught on the dance course in Inchicore with human growth and development and then became an ISTD tutor for the Diploma in Dance Education. He was an inspiration in the area of positive psychology and getting the best out of students. Thank you, Colm.

I only knew Colm through Bridge, but I took a shine to him straight away. There was something a bit cheeky or Maverick about him that appealed to me. Then one night I dropped my nose ring on the floor of the Bridge club and Colm got down on his hands and knees to look for it. I know this must sound so trivial, but I have never forgotten this gesture of kindness
I will remember Colm in all his states: funny, eccentric, caring, kind.

The picture I will hold in my head is of Colm entering the staffroom with his cap on head, bag slung over his shoulder, a smile on his face, light in his eyes, and always ready to have the chats, banter with people, offer support, and have some craic. We will miss his presence in the college more than can be said. He adored his wife, Emer. He spoke often of Emer, and of the rest of his family. It was always with such love and joy.
