The Officers, Committee & Members of Macroom Gaa Club would like to extend our Deepest Sympathies to Sheila, Deirdre, Lucy, Michael, Vincent, Fergal, sister Nellie, the extended Murray & Lucey families on the sad passing of Dan. Had the honour of winning 2 County Senior Football Championships 1958 & 1962 in the Green & White of Macroom. He also captained Macroom in the 1959 Final defeat to St. Finbarrs.
Played in the 1956 & 1957 All Ireland Senior Finals, and also represented Munster in the Railway Cup, playing in 4 finals. A pure gentleman.

In 1989 when Cork won the Sam McGuire after 16 years I was out sick with the chicken pox for two weeks I could not go into school.The cup was being brought around to all the schools in Cork. Mr Murray waited until I was better for the cup to cup to be brought to our school so I could be there to see the cup. I personally made sure I had that chance to see the cup. Thanks Mr Murray he was very kind that way.

I have lovely memories as a child of playing on the Green in the Rise and every now and then Dan would stroll over and ask me how the football was going - and depending on the opposition we were about to face, he'd dole out advice. So sorry to learn of Dan's death. He made a major contribution to education and community over the years, particularly in his position as Principal of Ballincollig Community School. Sincerest condolences to Mrs Murray and her family. In 1978 I was appointed French Language Assistant to the recently-opened Ballincollig Community School. Dan Murray welcomed me with such warmth that I immediately felt at ease. Throughout the school year he was very supportive and took great care to make sure everything was fine for me. Living my first teaching experience under the caring supervision of such a great educationalist and warm personality was indeed a privilege and an honour.

Our sincere condolences to Sheila and all the Murray Family on the passing of Dan. I first met Dan & Sheila when I joined the staff of the new school in Millstreet in 1964. Dan was Principal and a great mentor. He was enthusiastic, caring, great vision, coupled with drive and determination. An ideal start for any young teacher.

I later joined Dan again in 1977 at Ballincollig Community School. It was indeed an honour to work with Dan.
