No Finer Human Could You Meet

An ode to the life of David Brown, by Matthew Cunningham

Kindness graced a multitude of those that came to know discreet;
a saintly man of gentle ways, no finer human could you meet.
Deserved a life of longer stay, so much he gave, yet much to give,
in tearful loss we’re left today, to mourn a soul, we wished to live.

His humour touched our hearts galore; he always had a joke in store,
laughter echoing around, when all gags done, we asked for more.
A clever cook, a gardener keen, a brilliant thinker, mentor too,
the boundless talents he possessed enriched the lives of those he knew.

St Peter calls him to the gates; of heaven’s place where he belongs,
Angels flock to guide him home, the bugles blare and holy songs.
It’s not goodbye, it’s just farewell, and midst the sound of hymns we hum,
we call to David and to say, “et Dominus sit semper vobiscum”.

So sad to hear this news. I worked with Dave in EI for a number of years in the early eighties. A really genuine, hard-working guy with a wicked sense of humour. They were great times, we had such fun. We kept in occassional contact over the years and he started every conversation with his latest Joke! Rest easy good friend and sincere condolences to Therese, Sylvia, Jenny and the extended Brown family.

I am deeply saddened to hear of David's passing. I had the honour of working with David for many years in IDEX Pump Technologies I will always remember him for his kindness,his integrity and his wonderful sense of humour. Very sad after David! He was a wonderful parishioner at Kilnasoolagh church, where he was treasurer for the last few years. He was a kind wise gentle humerous soul. We shall miss him, but Heaven will be all the better for his presence!

I was very sorry to hear about David's passing. I knew him only a short while as a great colleague on the parish Select Vestry, but enough to know he was a very nice, generous, capable and gentle person. My sincere sympathies to Thérèse and all the family.

We both worked with Dave in Inland Motors and Tim worked with him in Ei Company also, and was best man at Dave and Therese’s wedding. It’s hard to put into words what a wonderful and capable work colleague he was, with a great turn of wit and a deadpan sense of humour. He saw the better side of everyone and was a joy to be around. The world was a better place with Dave in it.
