I had the pleasure of calling Declan my friend since 1989 when we shared a house in Killarney. It was with extreme shock and sadness to hear of his passing but a great comfort to have spoken to him one last time on the Friday before he passed. He was always so friendly I first met him when we were standing in a queue to buy our houses and he continued to improve the estate with all his sterling work on the residence committee. Sincere sympathies to Adrienne, Cliodhna, Conor and Dara and all of Declan's extended family on his sad passing. I have fond memories of when Declan and Dara, along with Auntie Mary and Uncle Eamonn, used to visit us in Renmore when they were on holidays in Galway.
Declan was always in good form and a positive and kind person to be with it.
We enjoyed playing some golf in Salthill and the long cycle out to and home from the golf course.

Very sorry to hear of Declan’s death. I am one of the drivers on Wednesday Meals On Wheels so got to know Declan over the years, enjoyed my chats with him and always felt he was very kind and unassuming. My condolences to his family and may he rest in peace.

I was so very sorry to hear about Declan’s passing. He was such a kind and genuine man—always warm, always ready for a chat, and so clearly devoted to his family and his community.

His strength in overcoming health challenges and his dedication to the residents committee showed the kind of person he was—quietly determined, generous with his time, and deeply caring. He made a real difference to those around him, and it was always a pleasure to see him and share a few words.

Declan was a wonderful father, husband, and friend, and I know he’ll be missed so deeply by everyone who knew him.
