I met Denis in St James Hospital (where my elderly father has been a patient), and we chatted a number of times over the past few months. Such a quiet gentleman, comfortable being on his own, Denis was always in good form, with a ready smile and calm demeanour, and he never complained despite all his health issues. I was happy for him that he was finally leaving the hospital to go to a nursing home in Athy closer to his own home after eight + months in hospital. Hearing today of the very sad news that he died just days after leaving SJH is a shock but I feel privileged to have known him, albeit briefly, and am consoled in knowing he is free of all pain in Heaven. My condolences to Denis’s friends and family.
