Joan, Rachel, Anneli, Charlie,

Although I’ve never met you, your father spoke of you so often and proudly that I feel as if I’ve known you for years. My husband, Ed, daughter Madeline and my husband’s coworker, Deena, and I were so lucky to have Dermot as our tour guide in December of 2017. Within hours he became so much more than our tour guide. He became part of our family. His love for history and Ireland was only surpassed by his love for his family. My daughters and I returned to Ireland a year after my husband unexpectedly passed away. Dubbed the “American Princesses” he made all of us smile and laugh during a difficult time. I know he is watching over you all - smiling with pride. God Bless you all. Take it one day at a time and continue to honor his memory and legacy. My condolences to you all.

Joan, Rachel, Anneli, and Charlie -

This news absolutely breaks my heart. I never had the chance to meet you all, but Dermot made such a huge impact in my life and in the lives of my mom, sisters & late dad. He hosted my mom, dad, and sister on their first trip to Ireland over Christmas 2017, and made such a lasting impact on them that they told stories of his incredible knowledge, humor, and personality to me and my older sister for years to come. When my dad unexpectedly passed in February 2021, we knew we wanted to go back to Ireland to mark the 1 year anniversary of his passing and spend the trip with Dermot. It wasn’t more than a couple of hours into our trip before he was joking about the “American princesses” and laughing at our weird sayings. We asked him hundreds of questions per day, and he didn’t miss a beat. He lived up to the hype, and genuinely became a part of our family. We marked the 1 year anniversary of my dad’s passing together at mass and he made sure we all smiled that day.

In the few days I spent with Dermot, he spoke of you all constantly. He was so fiercely proud of you all and so evidently held you, the family he built, as his biggest accomplishment. He was an absolute force of nature, and will be missed so much.

I am so unspeakably sorry that you are all going through this unimaginable pain. I know he will forever be with you all and watching over the family he loved so dearly. Keep making him proud - so much love to you!

Sincere condolences to all the Kelly family on the sad passing of Dermot. Thinking of you all during these difficult days and remembering Dermot as our Gentle Giant of a Boss in the old pool. Forever there to support us and drip feed us responsibility. He was the epitome of "chill", never losing his cool with us, even when we messed up!! So many wonderful memories of end of Summer staff nights in Fanad, surfing and Dermot at the BBQ flipping burgers made by Joan (with a secret ingredient!) the craic and the belly laughs! Treasured memories. Rest in Peace Dermot.
