Fond memories of that first day in September 1954 when we all sat down in the Marist Athlone to start our secondary education. Everyone eyeing each other with suspicion, especially you guys, down from the Hermitage, who could have come from any county in Ireland. We all got along fine and your presence certainly added to the overall comradeship which developed between a very diverse group of young men.
Thanks for your friendship and the confidence you instilled in many young lads during your career in education.
Some of us old boys will have a drink to your memory in London this weekend.
