Con and I were classmates all the way through St Kieran's College, Kilkenny, and we were ordained together on June 11, 1967 for the Diocese of Baker, in Oregon, USA. We came out here together on August 28, 1967 and were appointed to parishes. He was in Burns, Oregon first, an isolated place, many miles (135) from the next town with loggers, sawmills, big cattle ranches. We went to San Francisco together in his VW on our first Christmas here just for fun. He was known in seminary for asking "What about the poor farmer ?" - he was always on the side of the downtrodden and the forgotten and poor. He then went to South America to be closer to them !
He was devout and humble and lived a deep spirituality of poverty. He was a good man ! Here's hoping you all enjoyed him, and treasured him and his values, and now we can all be thankful that we knew him. May he walk with Yahweh. May his blessing remain with all of us !

Condolences to Fr Con's family.
Along with a fellow priest friend, I had the privilege of meeting Fr Con in his ramshackle shanty residence in Guayaquil about 20 years ago. He didn't know us, but because we were travelling with his fellow St James Society member Fr Pat Universal, he collected us at the airport and brought us to his "house", where he gave us a great welcome and where we stayed a few nights, and he brought us all around his parish. It was quite an eye-opener; I had never experienced such poverty. He was so at home in that "house" of basic accommodation and in that parish; an truly inspiring figure.

Fr. Con has been called to his eternal award. We did have the pleasure of having him visit us on occasions. He had of course worked with the poorest of the poor. So there was no baggage no desire for power ,position, prestige or money. His desire was God's work and a society of peace and responsibility of our own actions.
Fr. Con will be greatly rewarded in heaven. A man who simply walked with God in this life.
— Tidgie and Margaret O Sullivan
