It is with great sadness to learn of the passing of Francie Derwin or as he was affectionately known during his school years in the Dean Kelly School as the “Nudge Derwin”. I offer my sincere and deepest sympathy to his remaining family, To his sisters Sisters Mary Gaynor and Chrissie Finlass, his nieces and nephews and to the extended Derwin and Finlass families in the old Battery Area and at home and abroad.
I haven’t met with Francie Derwin for many years but I fondly remember him as one of the Great cultural and witty characters of his time that stood out of a bygone age in the Dean Kelly school, from the Baylough and Old Battery communities and the town itself. His unique wit and traits of character during his younger years within the Athlone community obviously remained with him throughout his life in Co Kerry and was the subject of great respect and acknowledgement.

Memories came flooding back of Francie(Nudge) from childhood with all the local children having great fun especially at Halloween....the pranks that were carried out were so funny and innocent.
