My condolences to all the Harkin family on the passing of Hugh. We first met through the catering industry, and we became golfing buddies playing every Saturday at Co. Meath GC(Trim). In our travels he was never short of a story and he always spoke passionately about his family, his Donegal roots, and his career. He was a marvellous character who was always ready to lend support to others and will be very sadly missed.
May Hugh rest in peace.
— Paul Byrne

My very deepest condolences to you Aunt Cathy, Kathleen, Noreen, John, Hannah, David, Sam, Jeremy, Shauna, John Joe, Molly, Kate, Olivia, Aoibh and Ciara.

Uncle Hughie has always been throughout my life such a huge inspiration for me. Not only his amazing confidence, 'larger than life’ persona and such love for Aunt Cathy and all his extended family.…. but also his many examples (from baker, shop-owner, manufacturing company founder and so many other things too across different countries and towns), that showed certainly me anyway.... and I’m sure everyone else too that was ever graced with any time at all in his presence..... that ‘anyone from any background can kinda do anything’; If they too mustered enough courage and put in the hard work, for long enough. And wow did Uncle Hughie always apply all that in bucket loads!

A vocal and close mentor to those lucky few, and a 'mentor by example’ to countless more!

I was very fortunate enough to have been named after Uncle Hughie's beloved Father, so I'm conscious that I have a lot to live up to. Rest in peace incredible Uncle Hughie. A life very well and fully lived. I will now try my best to learn and emulate more from your joyous, loving and impressive living of life.

I’m very grateful to churcheservices.tv for me having been able to join the service Online. Thank you.

With all my love from Myanmar, Billy

So very sorry to hear of Mr Harkin's passing and condolences to Mrs Harkin, Cathleen, John & Noreen.

I have 1 abiding memory of him. When we won the North Dublin Schoolboys Under 12s, or maybe 13's and after we collected our trophies, he stuffed almost all of us into his long red Peugeot Estate, lowered the windows and drove us all around Grange Park telling us to 'show everyone what you've achieved', and so, we shouted our heads off and did exactly that. It was the best Victory Parade any kid could have and indeed the only one ever had.
