Deepest condolences to Mary, Pat's sons and extended family on his passing. Pat started us both in our careers in TCS and took great pleasure in reminding me at any meeting over the years how not only did he get me a job, but also a husband - and one from Clare, no less! He had a big personality and was a fair and passionate principal. The school was a better place for him. He didn't take himself too seriously; I'm reminded of an occasion when he stepped in to my class for a few minutes, only for me to return to him under the table, mid paper-ball fight!
Ní bheidh a leithéad arís ann.
— Aibhín Gildea & Damien Keane

Ignatius will always hold his own place in my heart. He was a truly special person, exuding warmth and acceptance, all while lighting up a room. I never felt I had to be any other person than who I am to receive love from Ig in a genuine way. I am so grateful to have had him in my life and even more grateful to have had him as my son's grandfather. Jack absolutely adored him and cherishes the time they had together.

Ig's spirit will undoubtedly continue to be present through the limitless stories we all have to share. Sending love to whole Coffey Family.
— Megan Nordin

The first thing Mr. Coffey ever said to me on day one in TCS (in a whispering, mischievous tone): "Now, there may come a time when I might have to be strict but I want you to always remember...I don't really mean it." Gives a wink and a smile and walks off. Knew we'd be in good hands for the next 6 years. Journey well, Sir.
— Darren Crowe

I am very sorry to hear that Pat has passed. A wonderful Principal in every way to students and staff of TCS.I thoroughly enjoyed my year at TCS as a H-Dip student in 1999 and learned so much from Pat . Pat always had a wonderful presence in school, gave great time to everyone and shared his valuable knowledge with whoever crossed his path .He had a great hearty laugh with a story to follow and brightened up everyone's day.
RIP Pat.
— Catriona Sexton
Pat gave many young teachers, including me, their first start out in TCS in the early 2000s.

He was as adept at guiding us as he was the students in the school. His sense of mischief, his love of his home county of Clare, and the greatest game in the world, hurling, his love of conversation with all people of all ages and his loyalty to them were hallmarks of his huge personality.

Pat remained available for advice and the fast quip far beyond retirement.

He will be fondly remembered by many, but especially those in D24.

Rest in peace Pat.

My condolences to Mary, John, Paul, David and Mark and all of his family, whom he spoke of often, warmly and proudly.
