Apart from her outstanding contribution to the development of social work practice in Ireland, her choir, gardening and beautiful circle of friends, Ineke was a key personality in the early development of Educate Together.

It was she who lit the first spark in the development of the North Dublin National School Project - the third Educate Together school in 1981.

She organised the first meeting with the Dalkey School Project to talk about the possibility of a North Dublin school.

It was she who talked to mothers at the swimming pool. It was she who - in her own words - “was the one who ran around” to get things done

She invited expectant parents to her house for discussions where the first big public meeting at Wynn’s hotel was organised.

Sometimes, a small action, taken with courage and little thought of personal cost, has long-term and major ramifications. Such small actions are often hidden in the background and known only to a small group. They light a spark, they can be the pebble that starts the snowball or starts a ripple that can spread and resonate to make a wave. They are absolutely essential for the success of big ground-breaking projects. It is really important that such contributions are brought into the foreground and properly acknowledged.

I know that I speak for the whole Educate Together family in playing tribute to Ineke’s special contribution and to offer that community’s condolences to Mieke and Darren and their extended family and friends.
— Paul Rowe

Rest in Peace Ineke. My memories of Ineke and her family are some of my earliest memories as a child. Our parents were close friends and we grew up together; an extension of our own family. Christmas mornings, Halloweens, Easter egg hunts, picnics in Wicklow and many house dinners were done together and Ineke always had a welcome hug for us and treated us like her own. I cherish the memories. All my Love to Mieke and Darren during this tough time, we love you ♥️
