I work with OUP and Jan has been my contact at Eurofound for many years. We've had many conversations and addressed many challenges, and he was hopeful that we might meet in person one day. This didn't happen, sadly, but I'm pleased to say that our interaction was always positive, friendly and enjoyable, and his passing is a great loss.

Majell, I am so so sorry to hear of the recent passing of your beloved husband Jan.

My condolences to Jan’s family. I had known Jan as a neighbor in Bray and as a colleague at Eurofound. We used to talk a lot about African music and exchanged cds. He was very passionate about work at the library and always keen to have pleasant and stimulating chats in the corridor.

I was truly saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Jan. I had the privilege of working with him at Eurofound, where he was a remarkable source of knowledge in all areas of life. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work alongside him. He was a proud father and husband, and his kindness and wisdom will always remain with me.

What a shock to lose Jan so suddenly. We worked together at Eurofound and Jan was one of the most true-to-himself people I ever knew. He was so genuine and sweet. We almost share the same birthday, so as Tauruses, we bonded over our appreciation for the finer things in life. I will never forget how he introduced me to the gorgeousness that is Japanese paper and peanut rāyu (very niche but that was Jan as well). His love for his children shone through every conversation and just felt aspiring to me. Rest in peace, Jan.

Sincere condolences to Siofra and all the Vandamme family on the passing of Jan. Jan was so incredibly proud of his family and all their achievements. He loved basketball and encouraged all the players, especially James and his trick shots at HoopSkool. We will miss his cheerful chats and smile. May he rest in peace.

I was so shocked and heartbroken to hear of Jan´s sudden passing. He was a dear friend for many years when I worked in Eurofound. He was a wonderful librarian, with incredibly broad and updated knowledge of all kinds of topics. It was always a pleasure to have a chat with him, he was fun, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, kind. So proud of all his family and their achievements in life. We (& Kira) had particularly enjoyable encounters with Jan & Siofra as part of the Hoopskool family during Covid when sports were all forced outdoors and outdoors they went!!
