Very sorry to hear Joan has died. She was a lovely lady. She was always so kind to everyone when she was assistant matron in the Grammar School.
She was devoted to Lionel, her family and was so involved in the Arts, a love she passed on to her children. Thinking of all the family at this sad time.

We are so sorry to hear that Joan and Lionel have both passed away.Roy Payne passed away last Jan. Himself and his 4 sisters have lovely memories of staying with the Lloyd's in Castlerea during the 2nd World war. The last time we saw Joan was in the 1990,s when she brought 2 German refugees to visit. They had stayed with them after the war was over. They have both passed away since. Our sympathy to all Joan and Lionel,s families at this sad time.

Condolences to Joan’s family. I lived on Ard Na Veigh for three years and she was such a wonderful and fun presence. She was such a special person and she really will be missed.

So sorry to hear of Joan’s passing. Ard na Veigh will never be the same without this wonderful lady,who had a smile and a kind word for everyone. The memory of seeing Lionel reading to Joan while they sipped on a sherry by the fireside one evening while visiting, is a memory I will cherish.
They were truly a match made in heaven and I’m sure you as a family will take solace that they are both together again.

Our two families are connected through decades of friendship, and now, through Darina and Patrick, kinship. Deep bonds. I first met Joan on a visit to Sligo in the company of Conor and our mutual friend Caroline Wynne, in 1985. I got a lovely welcome from Joan, and a private tour of her Sligo. I remember in particular her showing me the beautiful Milmoe Guardian Angel, with the star on her forehead, and a walk through the hills, all flourishing before her that June. I was glad to return her hospitality when she came to Tallaght Stadium for the Sligo Rovers first FAI cup final in 15 years, on the coldest night in decades. I rem. her sitting on the stairs of our house, full Rovers gear, wrapped in a blanket, enjoying soup, as the kids raced around her, totally chilled as always. Some woman! Rest in Power Joan. Very sad Joan is no longer with us. What a wonderful woman. Brightened the lives of so many so often. Inquisitive, creative, serene and fun. But most appreciated of all was her generosity and her instinct to appear when needed most, to give wise council and moral support. Maybe something she picked up from observing her father at his occupation. A life so well lived. With Joan and Lionel so close, it seems fateful they passed away so close to one another. Very sad, but many great memories of both her and Lionel. Kindred spirits. What a duo Sligo has lost. Lots of love to Conor, Fionnula, Clodagh, Darina, Fergal and Tommy in these difficult times, and to grandchildren, Inga and the wider family.

Wonderful memories of Joan in St John's Cathedral over the years, always cheerful and encouraging, ready to help and be involved. We thank God for Joan and place her in His caring hands.

The kindness your mother showed to me when I had Bronagh when I was only 19 (30 yrs ago) has stayed with me all these years. She touched so many peoples lives in a most unassuming way. May her kindness live on in the memories that you all have of her.
