So sad to hear of Joans sudden passing . Heartfelt Condolonces to all the Phelan and Fitzpatrick families. I was blessed to have Joan as a very special friend even though we only met on two occasions on the Country Music tours to Scotland with Mick Flavin .We kept in touch ever since and i always looked forward to her lovely cards and her beautiful hand writing She was such a kind caring person always asking how my family were doing I have her last letter here written on the 15th of August. Iwill keep it and cherish it as a memory of a very special friend Glad we were able to watch her lovely mass and pray for all the Families on the day. Joan i wish you Peace and Happiness with your loving husband Mick

This is such sad news, especially so soon,after the recent death of Paddy. Sincere sympathy to John, Catherine, Kay and the extended Fitpatrick and Phelan families. A lovely neighbour here in Daly Terrace. In later years,
I often met her in Mountrath. She was a quiet kind person and loved by all, especially by the children who used the library. Thinking of you all at this sad time.

Fondest memories of dear Joan, a great family friend over the years. She was especially close friends with my late parents - particularly through her involvement with the old library, on the Shannon Rd. A very quiet individual (but who always had a great sense of humour) who loved walking her dogs. Her garden was kept immaculately. We last spoke in the Laois Shopping Centre, about a year ago - and although I've been gone from Mountrath for about 15 years, she always took a great interest in how you were getting on. Both Joan, and her late husband loved dancing, whist drives, and table quizzes - and I'd like to think that they're both together again. I'll miss her very much, but I was blessed to have known such a great person. May she rest in peace

Sincere Sympathy to Mrs Phelans relatives and friends on her very sad passing, she was always so cheerful and always spoke when l met her. My earliest memories of her were in the library and when l joined the post l often spoke to her at her house which she kept absolutely immaculate along with her garden in latter times l wouldve seen her in the graveyard which she visited regularly to pray for her beloved husband Mick may they both rest in Heavenly Peace.

My sincere condolences on the passing of Joan, and all who grieve her loss. Joan was a epitome of a lady. Always to be seen on her bike, usually on the way to graveyard to visit her beloved husband. I will always remember her fondly for her time in the old Library on the Shannon Road, she was so kind and caring and would keep books aside for me to read, my visits were never hurried, and in the late evenings she often allowed me "help" her lock up, although I'm sure I was more of a hindrance than a help, she was always so patient with her time. Even as the years moved on, she never forgot those visits and I enjoyed many chats with her in the graveyard in more recent years where we would reel in the years together. Rest in Peace Joan, the gates are surely wide open in Heaven to welcome you with open arms.

My deepest condolences to Mrs Phelans family RIP ♥️ such very fond memories I'll always cherish of such a beautiful lady from years of kindness in the Mountrath Library starting from the old one on the Shannon road up to her retirement in the new library in town I'll always be grateful of her help and advice throughout the years. You'll be sadly missed Mrs Phelan cycling up to the graveyard and shops everyday always taking time to say hello to everyone you met, you were always such a beautiful kind soul and there will never be another like you ♥️ thank you for the many years of heartfelt memories sleep well dear angel RIP ♥️
