It was with great sadness that we learnt of Joes passing. I had the privilege of attending CBS from 1975 until 1980, and my Son Conor followed in my footsteps in 2001. Joe had taught both of us. We both have very fond memories of him as a teacher and a gentleman. He instilled a life long ingrained love of geography (or Tir Eolas) in both of us. In my case it has become an integral part of my work in later life. I have great memories of his attempts to keep us all away from the demon drink in his capacity of recruitment sgt for the total abstinence association ! I could swap yarns all day. He was a wonderful kind man and it was always a pleasure to chat to him on Clanbrassil St in later life. To his credit he remembered my name, and always asked about Conor, my Son.
You will be missed Joe. May God look after your gentle soul. RIP

Deepest symphaties to the Needham family on the death of Joe. He was my history teacher in Dundalk CBS during the 1970s and he instilled a great love for the subject as weĺl as creating an interest in politics. His classes were not to be missed. It was always great to bump into him occasionally around the town and shoot the breeze about football. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilís.
