As an agricultural instructor in the Bansha and Kilmoyler area, John brought his wealth of knowledge and wisdom to the rural enterprises of the locality. On the field of play, John O'Meara had few peers in football and hurling with his native Cahir and his neighbours, Galtee Rovers - St. Pecaun's. He also wore the Blue and Gold in hurling and football with distinction.

As a young boy in Bansha in the early 1960s, I cheered him on as he played mid field for Galtee Rovers, winning West Tipperary Senior Football Championships in 1962 and 1963.
