It snowed today.
Again.
It’s odd the weather can be said to have an emotion, but it is in fact a known quality.
The day’s storm was a melancholy drifting of flakes. The uniform ceiling of light grey clouds giving the weak winter sun no chance of buoying our sinking spirits.
It seemed each flake cast a sidelong glance as it passed and whispered, “Had we heard?”.
The snow covered the ground and hid all trace of the life sleeping below.
Today, there would be no rush of wings, no songbirds to keep us company, nor rustle of leaf-laden branches.
But then, the surrounding landscapes have at least the promise of renewal come the return of the sun and warmer days…
A promise this day has denied to you.
The news came to us earlier this morning.
We are changed for having heard it.
John (Duggie) Duggan 1965-2023, son,brother, father, uncle, cousin, great uncle, and friend to many.
