We've known John Joe for so many years now, we've lost count. He was an amazing human being, generous to a fault with his time and talents. His contributions to the community were immense, especially in providing water to the neighbourhood. He was a founder member of Killone Group Water Scheme as well as the scheme's ongoing secretary/treasurer for many years. His dedication organisational and accounting abilities were amazing. He addressed by hand and stamped all the envelopes with the water bills every year. No computers required! Then he'd travel from house to house to collect moneys owed, not a whimper nor indeed was there a mileage bill ever presented. Some years ago we were so fortunate to have accompanied him with his friends and neighbours to an award for community service sponsored by Clare VEC. We will never see his likes again. Thanks John Joe, you were a genuine hero.

John Joe was a regular and welcome visitor to our house for more than 50 years to discuss all things community, church, and state.
An outstanding voluntary community person who immersed himself in parish activities, with his involvement in the Irish Farmers
Association, the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association, establishing the annual mass at Killone Abbey, building of Grotto & Sacristy at Ballyea Church, mapping & allocation of graves, remodelling of the ‘old’ community centre, and involvement in Killone Group Water Scheme to list but a few.
A person of the highest integrity who was honest, logical, and articulate in his interactions with everybody.
The parish has lost a great servant, friend, and neighbour.
Condolences to his relatives & friends. May he Rest in Peace.
