On behalf of the Wexford SeaShantys it is with a great sorrow and sadness to hear of John's passing , i think we frustrated many a nights pre set programme because as soon as John saw us he would berate me to get the lads singing Shantys and keep the Shantys coming. Many years ago in the 1940s I resided in Bridgetown where my dad was station master and John was my late brothers best friend. I met John on a number of occasions in Kilmore, a pure gentleman in ever respect.

My deepest sympathy to Trish and all the family on the death of John. He was one of the most knowledgeable people in the fishing industry around the coast of Ireland and beyond. His advice was much sought after and was feeely given. I was delighted to work with him and benefit from his advice. I would regard him as a good friend to me but especially to Kilmore Quay. My sincere sympathy to Trish and family on the sad passing of John, he was a legend where research and history were concerned and his contributing's to, especially the Kilmore Parish Journal over its lifetime was amazing not to mention his own publications down through the years. He left no stone unturned in his research and work which is now in print for generations to come. John, May you rest in Peace.
