John Rice

Marian and Darren I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of John. You were always so lovely to us when we came down to visit in Wexford. May he rest in peace.

I was first introduced to John in September 2009 at the ceremonial planting of his favourite tenor Mario Lanza by his and my good friend Geraldine McCann. Over the course of many years later, we met at tribute concerts to the same tenor and I also had the pleasure of meeting him and Marianne his wife, in his home in Wexford.

John was one of the finest and kindest people I have ever met. A true gentleman.

My condolences go to his wife Marianne, his son Darren and his extended family.

May he rest in peace in the arms of God.

I am shocked to learn about the passing of my dear Irish friend John. John and I met for the first time 15 years ago (19th September 2009) at a Mario Lanza get together in Coventry, UK. Ever since we shared our love for our great tenor. Back in 2010 and 2011 my late Mom Traudel and I visited John in Wexford and had great times. I am heartbroken. John, I will miss you terribly, and Mom would add „absolutely“ (this was the only English word she understood and she always had a big smile on her face when you mentioned it!). Thank you for pushing her around in her wheelchair, for showing us around in Wexford and ist surroundings, and for looking so much after and devoting so much time to us during our visits. And a BIG thank you for sharing your love and knowledge of Mario Lanza with me. You were a true and loyal friend. Modest and generous. I know the „Student Prince“ Serenade sung by Mario Lanza was your absolute favourite song, so I hope that it will be played on your Funeral mass, which I will attend online. My condolences go to the Rice family.
