To all the Ryan family and those who were lucky enough to have had John in their lives, I am so grateful and blessed to have had John as my "Best Friend" for all of 60 years. We were sat together in Low infants class in Kilcommon National School and were together throughout our Secondary School.
Our early childhood was filled with adventures on our bikes travelling around the roads of Kilcommon.
Alter servers, legion of Mary, youth club, GAA teams, soccer team, music concerts, Papal visit to Galway, groomsman, and most recently sharing a very proud day for him, as he got a beautiful daughter in law.
He was my number one Confidante and would always be discreet he could get a great laugh making fun of me unless He was my number one Confidante and would always be discreet unless he could get a great laugh making fun of me.
Thanks to all the Ryan family for sharing a Great Man. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord.
Amen.xxx

Sincerest condolences to Gemma and all the Ryan family. My mother was an ex colleague of John’s and always spoke fondly of him. May he rest in peace
Hi Anne David and Gemma just a few thoughts on my brother John 22 months younger than me and 4 years older than our brother Rody. Born in Foilnacanna Kilcommon Thurles in September 1960 we walked through the fields for a short cut to school he was a cleaver lad but hated school and crossed a river over a plank for years that was fun in the winter with a flood underneath the plank. The 3 of us had great fun playing in the fields and playing with neighbours and friends from school some which r lifetime friends remerbing his best friend Liam Hanly and Martin Ryan Lar. Worked on the farm as well in the bog and the meadow and helped our mother feed the calves. Which was great fun trying to get them into the house at times. I have great memories of our life in Foilnacanna. Bed of heaven to u dear brother. Miss u dearly . Nora
Gemma, Anne, and David
John grew up just across the fields from us and would often pop over to look in the shed, curious to see what Gerry was working on or fixing. My dad loved John’s inquisitive mind and eagerness to learn. He would go into great detail explaining the workings of whatever was in front of him—a gearbox spread out on the floor, an engine sitting on the kitchen table, a sewing machine, a washing machine, a scanner, or even a delicate watch spring in need of repair.
As John grew up and moved to Galway, Daddy’s face would light up whenever he walked into the kitchen for a visit. He would share stories about his training, the job he was working on, and the complexities of precision engineering. My father was on a high, delighted that John was finding the same thrill in his work that he had always cherished. Over countless cups of tea, they swapped stories, discussed the finer details of their trade, and laughed at the world's madness.
They talked about flying—John continued his lessons and earned his pilot's license, while Gerry didn’t, They shared a love of planes & travel too, and John would fill us in on the latest trips he and Anne had taken.
He took immense pride in his work and was a role model to us growing up. His sharp wit, warm humour, and deep love for his family were unmistakable—his face lit up whenever he spoke of Gemma and David.
He'll be deeply missed but always remembered with great fondness—as John Callaghan, from across the fields.

This isn't a condolence, rather a thank you to everyone for their condolences and stories of dad so far, and an ask to keep sharing.♥
This online condolence book is open until the end of 16 March.
♥ ♥ Please, if you have any specific memory or story of dad (even if you have added a condolence already), we'd love if you could add them.♥ ♥
Or even reach out to any one of us with them. Whether that's by text, email...carrier pigeon! Or if you have any photos either.
♥ If you think or know of someone who found out about dad's passing after the fact, please share his RIP.ie page with them so they have a chance to add.
The stories have been so lovely to read, and I personally would hate to miss out on hearing of any when we have the chance. I never saw the true importance of leaving a condolence until now and my God, do they make such a difference - they are such a lovely comfort, to hear the happy memories you shared with Papa John, Small John, THEE John Ryan (feel free to share any other nicknames he was known by too that we might not be aware of!😂😊)
The recurring mentions of 'divilment', 'humour', 'gentleman', 'kind', 'character' and 'chat' have been so, so lovely - we're glad his true character got through to so many. Thank you.♥
➡➡➡My email is gemma.a.ryan93@gmail.com if you'd rather reach out that way, or I can share my mobile number there if that's easier for you.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so, so much to each and every one of you.
