It is with very sad hearts that we have seen that Liam has passed, with deepest sympathy to Mrs Fleming, Shane, Aiden and your sisters, wife, husbands and grandchildren. Remembering all the good times we had years ago going into Flemings shop in Roscommon meeting Liam with our Dad Pat (R.I.P) delivering the sausages, rashers bacon and hams. I extend my condolences to your dear mother Lillian, Ríona,Lisa and Fiona as well as to Shane and Aiden and your parents beloved grandchildren. He was so obviously a man devoted to his family and to his community. A fellow West of Ireland man, of your Dad’s generation, the late Father Enda Mc Donagh wrote “ We cannot possess hope without practicing it. It is the most fundamental craft we demand of ourselves” That is the wonderful legacy of your dear Dad.

Liam - like for so many others - gave me my first ever job, 30 years ago, which got me through college. He was decent and kind to us youngsters, and even though he was always a busy man in a hurry, he somehow seemed to still find time to speak with all of the people he met along the way.

I knew Liam from back in the day in the Corner Bar Ballinlough
And when he made the move to Roscommon town

I wish to offer my sincere condolences to the Fleming family on the passing of Liam . I have childhood memories of Liam in Ballinlough ( long before his departure to the county town of Roscommon) . As young fellas we would travel in Liam’s Ford Anglia estate on an adventure to the land at Cashel’s on the Roscommon/ Mayo border ( John Ryan lives there now ) . Almost like something from Huckle Berry Finn . Flemings shop in Ballinlough sold the finest cheddar cheese and it was cut from the “wheel “with precision with a wire cutter. Lilly Quinn operated next door , an Aladdin cave for clothing and footwear and that old school personal service . Liam was a mighty man for returning to Ballinlough and paying his respects to those that passed locally and that included my own people as well . I hope Liam wrote a diary of his journey from his Ballinlough days to his very successful venture in Roscommon town , maybe the skills handed down in his Ballinlough days contributed to his success further afield .
