While I never actually met Matthew, I often popped into your shop to buy a beautiful candle or that gorgeous hand sanitiser that you make, and each time I noticed a vintage motorbike parked in the lane and then Matthew would appear holding a mug of tea in his hand. Ye had a lovely connection Suzanne, one that I, a complete stranger, automatically picked up on. How wonderful to have that special bond, something that most of us can only wish for. Of course ye are all heartbroken, there are no words. Just know that this lady from Co. Clare is thinking of you and your three gorgeous children, and that yourself and Matthew reignited my belief in love with that special person. Love never ever dies.

It was with great regret that we learnt last week of the passing of Matthew. Matthew and his family have been a part of the community in Peterswell for over 20 years and their association with our school stretches back almost as far. Both Matthew and Suzanne have been involved in so many of our creative and artistic projects over the years which would not have been possible without their expertise. Most recently, Suzanne was good enough to design our sensory walkway for us with Matthew laying many of the creative surfaces our students now enjoy in June 2023. They were a perfect team!

On behalf of St Thomas NS, we would like to offer our deepest sympathies to Matthew's wife Suzanne and his children Bridget (past pupil), Joe and Gracie (present pupils).
— Peterswell NS Staff and BOM

As a group of cyclists from the south Galway area we would like to express our condolences to Suzanne and the Orford family on the passing of Matthew. We are always intrigued by the vans, cars, etc., when we pass by your house either climbing or descending in Keelderry. For some time now we have called this route "Classic cars" and we will continue to do so in his memory.

I am so saddened by the loss of one of my oldest and longest standing friends.

Matthew and I met some 45 years ago when we were in the venture scouts - The Tornado Unit of Crosby to be exact.

Such fun times including the chair race at Mersey Moot traction rally, ice skating at the Silver Blades and painting the scout hut at Llansannan to name but a few.

Matthew was always a really good friend to me. He supported me at a time when I was really ill and had other problems going on at the same time.

I love the fact that he always kept in touch with me and cherish all the times we spent together.

I was so happy for Matthew when he met the gorgeous Suzanne. They have been living their best life in Galway with their three gorgeous children.

I will miss Matthew so much - I cannot find the words to express just how much.
