My sincere sympathy to Neds family. Ned was a person of highly intelligent, self learned but with a great understanding of life, had been through the toughest of times throughout
his long life.but he has left us a great body of work, his prose, poetry, and songwriter writing will be there for all, as will his copper etching,of which i am so honoured to have one.he did it his way, a character of substance and craft and wtiting ability second to none.we have lost something special, that's is now gone from us.Slán Eamon

I have great memories of a day he spent with me with reminiscing on the times we played minor football against each other, (Kilmoganny V Tullogher), his legendary stories about his time in Australia , and chats about the history of County Kilkenny and many other topics. A true gentleman-Rest in Peace Ned.

Condolences to the Egan family from all at the Home Rule Club
— Kilkenny home rule club
it’s fitting that Ned’s mortal remains repose in the funeral parlour in West Street, Callan, because it happens to be just a few yards from where he had his copper etching enterprise in the town in the 1980s.

Despite having lost an eye and for a while almost all of his sight, he learned everything he needed know to produce those lovely works that today can be seen in pubs, clubs, hotels and private homes across Ireland, America, Australia, and Europe. Some called him the “Copper man” at that time.

Ned has left an impressive legacy…poetry, several books, songs…and fond memories for those who heard any of the priceless yarns he told around pub firesides or at reunions.

Ned wrote about that other Ireland of his young days with great clarity and insight…like the long gone show-band days and the great ballrooms of romance…he summed up the loss of a cherished part of Irish culture in one line of a song he wrote: “the halls are deserted now; the girls have gone away…”

Ned’s writings, many of them online and free to all, will attract even more interest in the weeks and months ahead.

May he have peace and a well-deserved rest from his long and creative earthly life… in a world without pain.

The “Copper man” has returned to the Fields of Gold.
