Noel O'Donovan

Dear Clare, our sincere condolences to yourself and family on the death of Noel. It was just in passing that Noel's name came up at our Pres PPU monthly coffee morning in Barry's of Douglas Tuesday 3rd September. I was completely surprised to hear that he had passed away. Both Catherine and I were away on holidays the end of July beginning of August so missed the announcment on RIP.ie.
I knew Noel since we were 6yrs old and living in Beaumont Drive and later in Skehard Rd. Growing up together we had a great childhood and great times.

My sincere condolences to Clare Niamh and Karen and the extended O’Donovan family on the loss of the great man that was Noel O’Donovan.
I have great memories of spending time with him and his great friend Jerry Murray in Cork Con back in the days (what a wonderful reunion that must have been) to a number of years ago on the eve of a six nations in Searsons Dublin spending time with him Clare and Niamh.

He was simply a man’s man a gentleman and a loyal Munster man and supported.

I can only imagine how proud he must have been to learn recently that his grandson Brody toured and represented USA Rugby 🏉

I am so sad to hear of Noel's passing. It's years since we've had any contact but our childhood was rich with visits to Crosshaven and Myrtleville and more especially to Skehard Rd and the shop! What fun we had and what great memories ! Thinking of Clare Karen and Niamh and also Pat Martin and Katherine as you bid farewell to Noel.

Heartfelt sympathy to Clare, Karen, Niamh and the grandchildren on the death of Noel. His office was next door to me when he worked in Mitchelstown. He climbed the stairs, dropped the brief case off in his office and called into me to bid me good morning. There was always a story, well told, and he was always upbeat. His 3 ladies were always a huge part of his life - so proud of them. I am so so sorry to have missed his funeral. Rest in peace Noel. What a life well lived and what a void he will leave.

My sympathies to Noel’s wife, children, grandchildren and extended family on the passing of a gentleman. I met Noel over 40 years ago whilst he was with Byrnes in Ballincollig. At the time I was a young Business/Marketing graduate. Noel gave me the break of my career when I got my first assignment to spend a spell in Paris in 1984 studying the pork meat industry. I owe a lot to Noel for his support, advice and help during this period. I found him a lovely man to work for and he had a great business mind, coupled with good humour.

I struggle to put into words how deeply sorry I am to learn of Noel's passing. Noel has been such a massive part of my life for over 30 years as a colleague, mentor, supporter and as a great, great friend.
Back in the early days there were times when things were getting on top of me in work and Noel could just sense it. Next thing he would be sitting in front of me. This was when I worked outside Belfast and he worked in Cork!.
When I moved to Dublin we worked even more closely together. I remember I was new in my job and a bit unsure of myself. And Noel made a comment in passing to me about how well I was doing. He had no idea what a massive lift I got from it! 20 years later I remember it so well. I respected him so much.
My family and friends had the great pleasure of meeting Noel - very often with rugby and a few pints involved.
He was the star of the show at my stag - all of them adored him - and how well he knew it! Equally my wife, our boys and I spent memorable and wonderful hours with Noel and Clare. Simply inspirational people. And of course I also had the very great pleasure of meeting Niamh and Karen.
Niamh might remember the last great night's craic we shared with Noel not too long ago in Dublin after a Wales game - and my crew hanging off his every word!
A legend has passed on. He enriched my life so much. Anne Marie is devastated. I will be thousands of kms away from the funeral but Noel and all his family will be in my thoughts. RIP Noel
