Sincere sympathy Peggy and all the Tierney family on your sad loss. May Noel Rest in Peace
— Margaret Costello,Creevagh/Dublin
From all the Lancaster family: Ramsay & Sylvia Travers, Patty, Ken & Sarah Rose Lancaster, Kathie Lancaster, and friends who enjoyed Noel’s company both in Canada and Portugal, Elaine McCallum LLM, Diana Fuller Henninger LLM, Sue McCallum LLB, Art Birnbaum LLB, his biking mates Frank Koopman & Mark Ellis & and the Hash Running/walking Group. Many enjoyed hikes with Noel. Sue and Art entertained him on a fabulous Muskoka Cruise. Kathie lavished her delicious cuisine on him almost weekly at The Village Inn. His power at biking was legendary. He biked regularly with Frank up and down the Monchique mountains. And trained Mark Ellis for a gruelling multi day trip across Africa. Sara Rose comments that he mercilessly drilled her on left foot soccer kicks.
A man for all seasons and all sports. And loved and respected by the many who were friends with him.
Not only will he be missed but always remembered as the legend he was.
— Lancaster
Forever in Our Hearts, Noel

Noel, we thought you’d live forever,
But in our hearts, your light will shine.
Your brilliance, wit and kindness stay with us,
Guiding us through space and time.

We miss the chess games by your side,
Your generous heart and firm embrace.
Though you’re no longer with us,
Your memory will forever light every space.
— Simon & Ann Lancaster

A mutual interest in Collies fused a chat in a hotel carpark during Covid.

The frame of the man being a few sizes too big for the seat of his jeep drew the instant comment 'you're either a footballer or a farmer' - him concealing the rangy limbs was a sight to behold.

He'd regale hearty tales of lifelong visits to his Kerry frenemies and especially their families; and then always complimenting the endeavours of others - the sign of a true giant.

Sympathy to family and friend.
RIP Noel.

The picture of Noel Tierney reaching above everyone for the ball with those huge, safe hands is one that comes to mind many times as we describe Noel's glorious years of football.
On Thursday Noel once more was head and shoulders above everyone; sadly this time was when his football / club comrades carried him shoulder high from the church through his beloved Milltown on the way to his final resting place.
Our youth is tinted with memories and moments, one for me as a Tierney cousin from the Mayo wing of the family, is a tv being got in our house for my father Tommy and the family to watch his nephew Noel play in the All Ireland final in Croke Park for Galway AND win, 3 in a row.
So many times throughout my life I was asked, "anything to Noel Tierney the great full back"
Yes indeed and a proud Tierney.
The respect and love for Noel was evident on Wednesday and Thursday with the numbers who came to offer condolences and comfort to the family.
Peggy, Martin, Aoife, Mairéad and families, my cousins Bridie, Kathleen, Nora, Teresa, Ann and Sean we extend our condolences to you at this difficult time of parting and separation.
Noel had tread on the path of pain and suffering, the Lord saw he needed rest, so now with his son Fergal, his parents, brothers and sister he is at rest among the Angels.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.

Slán go fóill Noel.
.
— Seán (John) and Mary Tierney, Castlegar,
To dear Peggy , Martin, Aoife and Mairéad, and extended families, our sincere sympathy to you all as you mourn the loss of Noel . I have lovely memories of the Sixties and the three in a row.. watching the games in a black and white tv with all the neighbours in , shouting and roaring as Noel and his team played their hearts out on the pitch. We were always very proud of Noel Tierney!!!
It was so wonderful to be at his celebration in Milltown, a week before he passed away .. it was such a great tribute to him and to his family.
Thinking of you all at this time of immeasurable loss.

Sincere sympathy to you Peggy and the entire Tierney family on the sad passing of Noel .
I was very young in the 60s when Noel was excelling at full back for Galway and when we played our little matches out in the field ,I was supposed to be Noel Tierney .
He was one of the finest full backs that ever played football --he could just rise up into the clouds and come down with the ball .If they didnt kick so many wides against Dublin in 63 ,they,d have won the 4 in a row .
May Noels gentle soul Rest in Peace .
