We were all very sorry to hear about Orla's sudden serious illness and then her death. It must have been a great shock for all the family who must feel very bereft. Our sympathy goes out to you all.
Orla had been a member of our group for for at least 25 years and came faithfullly to our monthy meetings havinig read the designated book with great attention to detail, ready to make her contribution to the discussion. She was witty, wise and wonderful in her ability to analyse and dissect themes and motives and characters. We will remember her for her insightful comments, her self-deprecating asides and her great sense of humour, but also for her passionate defence of her political and religious beliefs. We will miss you Orla. May you Rest in Peace.

Mount Merrion Parish has lost one of its pioneering heroes. Little happened during the past 30 years that Orla wasn’t involved in. Ready and willing to get ‘stuck in’ with ideas and/or practical help, her ‘formal’ involvement included the Parish Liturgy Group/Diocesan Liturgy Commission, Church Cleaners, Ministry of the Word, Coordinator/Choir Leader for the Family Mass, Altar Society, Faith Space Group, Committees for big events, Parish Hospitality, Parish/Deanery Woman’s Forum and Sacristan on weekends. Orla’s home was available for Parish Meetings, both formal and informal, and many fun gatherings were held therein. Her overwhelming sense of joy, excitement, and ‘devilment’ carried many groups through the ups/downs of voluntary activity down the years. Random thoughts that Orla shared took feet and many Parish initiatives grew out of seeds/ideas that Orla planted, often unconsciously, but with great passion and follow through, most recently getting her concern for honouring life from conception to natural death onto our Parish Noticeboards. Her Seasonal Reflections were legendary: versions of the Christmas Story as told by Joseph, Mary, the donkey, angels, innkeepers and shepherds and more serious Reflections for Parish and Family events. A part of our parish story, Orla, your influence will continue to be felt, even by many who didn’t have the privilege of knowing you personally. We will miss you. Reunited with Brian and Noreen, may you rest in peace!
— Brenda O Tighearnaigh, Mount Merrion Parish
Orla was such a kind, gentle, warm, loving wise and intelligent member of our community. She really lived her Christianity with an easy ecumenism and always brightened any team she belonged to. I (Bernie) shall miss the interesting chat we occasionally enjoyed very much.

Our sympathy especially to Susan and Anne, who really enriched and enlivened our family when they babysat through the 1990's.
