Heartfelt condolences to Julia, Matt, and Mr & Mrs Murphy.

Peter’s repartee and ability to make people laugh was one of his true gifts. But there are so many other things that I truly appreciated and admired about Peter — too many, in fact, to fit into a short condolences note.

But here are some. His kindness, his wit, his keen intellect, his love for books. A mind that sought not just answers but the beauty and depth in discovering them. His sophisticated appreciation for the world and his openness to embracing new places and ideas.

He will be so missed by so many, including me. I promise, Peter, I’ll see you and that smile in the next lifetime.

Sending much love and strength to the Murphy family in this devastating time.
— Marie Macri

I am sorry to hear this news. Peter was a great guy. I loved working with him. He was an example of fairness, integrity, and intellectual greatness.

My heart goes out to his family. Peter and I spent many hours discussing family and his wishes for a future family. Peter loved the concept of having a family.

This is a great loss to our society
