Robbie really was so erudite, a lovely man, and a pleasure to work with. At the graveyard, and as people spoke about him at the funeral, we were reminded of another Robbie’s (Burns) poem.

An honest man here lies at rest,
the friend of man, the friend of truth,
the friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm'd,
few heads with knowledge so inform'd;
If there's another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this.

My deepest sympathies to the Fitzgerald family, the news is heartbreaking. Robert was a good close friend of mine over the years from school and then NUIG where we had some great experiences battling away together through engineering and then graduating together. He always had this great wit matched by none, and always had me in stitches. We shared a lot in common around musical tastes and our passion for guitar. I always looked forward to meeting up with Robbie for a pint and catchup whenever I was home from Sydney, and he was very kind and considerate regarding my own recent loss. Take care Robbie, rest in peace.

I'll miss my friend, Robert. His passing has created a great sense of loss amongst all those who knew him, something that has been very evident during his funeral.
I'll forever remember his kind and generous nature, but also his wit and wide interests that were the basis of many a good chat.
Whenever we parted, it was never a goodbye - it was "I'll talk to ye...".

Robert was my manager but more a friend and mentor. I learned a lot from him and he was the most supportive person, always kind and funny. I'll miss him and he will always be in my memories. May his soul rest in peace.

Condolences to all the Fitzgerald family. I knew Robert through scouts as a kid and will have happy memories of him then and as we got older, meeting up chatting about engineering life. Always dry and witty. Will be sadly missed. RIP Robert.
