I like so many others am deeply saddened to hear that that Ronan has "Gone Home" I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the Mahony family on your loss.
To me and so many others "Ron" was our Scout leader.
Ron brought generations of us through scouting. He thought us knots and lashings, how to navigate with a map and compass, how to pitch tents, how to cook on an open fire and so much more.
He gave so freely of his time and organised summer camps (even if it meant figuring out how to get dialysis abroad) offering opportunities we'd never have had otherwise home or abroad.
On all the camps he ran he'd always find time for us to gather around the campfire, wind down, enjoy the camaraderie and of course sing campfire songs. The lads always thought that they'd get under his skin when they'd add in verses like "Oh you'll never get to heaven in Ron's car, because Ron's car won't go that far!" but those who knew Ron could see a wry smile form when they tried to get a rise out of him.
I've heard many lament over the past few days that Ron never had any children but they couldn't be more wrong there are so many of us who Ron touched with his life even if he never quite knew the extent of the impact he had on us. I can see so many familiar names here spanning many decades of Ron's Scouting legacy.
I will end this as Ron always ended a campfire.
Day is done, gone the sun.
From the lakes, from the hills, from the skies. All is well, safely rest…
— A Former Ballincollig Scout

Sincere condolences to all of Ronan’s family, his sister and brothers, nieces, nephews, in law’s, extended family and friends at this sad time. I had the pleasure of knowing Ronan through the 49th Scouts for many years and was very fortunate to have shared many Scouting trips with Ronan and other leaders-From Switzerland/France/England/Galway/Tipperary to name just a few places Ronan made it all happen for so many people including myself in the days before mobile phones & the internet- it was simply amazing what he achieved by getting on the land line and making those trips happen! His payment from us leaders? A crewing weekend in Mount Mellery (often in the depths of a freezing weekend in winter!) but so much laughs and craic was had by us all. He gave so much to Scouting in both Ballincollig & Bishopstown and so many people are the better for knowing Ronan.
May he Rest In Peace
