In Memory of Sean McCartain

I first met Sean in 1970, 55 years ago, when we were among a group of graduates selected to undertake the newly introduced M.Ed. course at Trinity College, under the guidance of the late Professor Rice. As pioneers of this program—perhaps more like guinea pigs—we navigated a wide array of subjects, facing the challenges together. I was relieved to have a fellow Faithful County companion by my side, and throughout that year, we lightened each other’s burdens with camaraderie and good humor.

Our paths continued to cross in the years that followed, eventually leading us both to County Offaly. Sean was a man of quiet wisdom, warmth, and integrity—one of nature’s true gentlemen. His calm and affable presence left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

My deepest condolences to Maire, Caitríona, Róisín, Michael, and Eoin. May he rest in peace.
