I had the good fortune to make acquaintance with Simon when I used to have lunch daily in The Merchant. Simon would come in for a sandwich maybe every 2 or 3 weeks and we would get chatting from time to time. Always a very interesting man; some great stories from his days in The International and he had an admirable knowledge of music, particularly choral music, and he was a great supporter of choral societies and orchestras.
A gentle man, and a gentleman. May his gentle soul now rest in peace
