Sincere sympathies to all her Sisters, especially Sr Assumpta, on the loss of the second of the duo that were musical genius to Ballymahon and the convent and who will be remembered fondly for the amazing and wonderful performances Sr's Maura and Agnes staged year on year. My deepest condolences to the Fay family & relatives, the Sisters of Mercy Western Province, all Sr. Maura’s past teaching colleagues from CMB, her many friends, both musical & social, past pupils who were taught and nurtured by her in their formative years and many acquaintances, on her recent and sudden passing. Sr Maura had a beautiful aura about her always. She was encouraging, energetic and positive and cultivated accomplishment in all her teaching but was a maestro in music. My abiding memories are my first impressions when she taught us elocution in first year. I still remember her definition of the subject: “the art of correct speech” and included learning the poem Jemima. The school operas she directed were life changing for us students and the amount of work she put into those is unquantifiable, but definitely worth it for us in terms of confidence, developing a love of musical shows, and student camaraderie. We all owe her a huge depth of gratitude. May she have her deserved reward now in heaven and may she be forever happy and at peace. Coladh sámh, Súir Mháire. 😇

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Sr. Maura. Words cannot express what an inspirational teacher she was. Her passion and enthusiasm for everything she was involved in was a credit to her. Our English classes were always lively and interesting, from very successful plays to debating competitions and challenging us to be the best versions of ourselves. Her love for music enriched the lives of all her students, and along with dear Sr. Agnes, the memories are of fun times. I am especially grateful to her for organising flute lessons for me, and true to form, Sr. Maura joined in with the lessons. As a teacher myself, it amazes me how effortless she made it all seem. My sincere condolences to Olive and all her extended family, Sr. Assumpta, Sr. Maura and all her friends in the Sisters of Mercy and beyond. Ar dheis lámh Dé go raibh a hAnam.

My sincere sympathy to the Fay family and to the mercy community on the sad passing of their beloved sister Maura.
As a past pupil in Ballymahon convent in the 1960s I had the pleasure of enjoying her magnificent musical productions.
Sister Maura always displayed a genuine kindness accompanied by a caring smile.
I had the unexpected good fortune to meet her again in Athlone a few weeks ago and was greeted with the same friendly smile.
Despite her long illness she still retained her deep and genuine interest in others. She will always be in our memories.
