Comhbhrón ó chroí to Tom's family and many friends at this sad time. I remember Tom through the North Tipperary VEC Cultural Activities Committee. Tom was a learned and meticulous quiz master who turned general knowledge into an engaging art form. He was also an accomplished adjudicator of debates. His keen intellect and fairness shone through, earning the respect of participants and audiences alike.

Sincere sympathy to Pat, Sr. Evelyn, Sr. Josephine and the extended Russell family on the sad loss of Thomas, RIP. He was a true gentleman with a deep faith who combined integrity, generosity of spirit, a razor sharp intellect and marvellous wit in a calm, unassuming demeanour making it a pleasure to be in his company at anytime.

I would like to acknowledge his great support for the school and community over the years through his masterful work as quizmaster. You left every quiz with a smile and some new nuggets of information which Thomas so skillfully included in his presentation. Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal dílis.
— Fitz and Kay Ryan, Ileigh
What a shock to learn last night that Tom had died on 8 November. He was a dear friend and ex-colleague (from "Africa" days) of my late husband, Denis.

Tom and Denis had many hill-walking sessions in Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. I last met Tom a month ago when he traveled from Tipperary to Wicklow for Denis's funeral (25/26 October), just thirteen days before his own death.

My deepest sympathy to his sisters, Sr. Josephine and Sr. Evelyn, his brother Pat and extended family. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace and happiness.

Celia McWatt and family, Ashford.
