Kira, Sophie and Kate, my heartfelt sympathies at the loss of your dear Dad Tim, may he rest in peace.
— Lorna Tyrrell (Springhill Park)
Deepest sympathy to Kate, Kira and Sophie and extended Magennis family on the sad passing of Tim. A most eloquent and engaging person who had a real passion and enthusiam for promoting Ireland in his professional capacity and was an avid lover of all things marine in his personal life. We were colleagues in Bord Failte over many years and Tim was always so helpful in sharing his wisdom and guidance in so many ways. Wonderful memories of when he took our golfing society to his native Ardglass. May his gentle soul rest easy as he sails on to the wild blue yonder.
— John Rafferty

Owe Tim a great debt of gratitude for being such a solid friend and sounding board through the DBOGA, for encouraging my involvement with Inshore Ireland, and ultimately introducing me to the great work of the GSI. Worked very closely for a number of years with him on Ireland's Tall Ship project, which he was immensely passionate towards. His enthusiasm for all things sailing-related never waned; and his spirit, acuity, and positivity toward adventure, learning, and fun was unmatched. Fair winds Tim.
— Cian Gallagher, DBOGA

I was very sorry to learn of Tim’s passing. He was always an absolute gentleman. I remember him starting work in the Irish Press newsroom in the early 1970s after a sojourn in Africa and having racked up much journalistic experience. With his beard and his charisma, it seemed like a Viking had come among us, and I listened enthralled to many a story about his seafaring days. He will be greatly missed by those of us who had the privilege of working with him. My condolences to his family.
— Sean Boyne

Deepest sympathy to Tim’s beloved Kate, Kira and Sophie and extended Magennis family on their sad loss. Tim was a great colleague and friend of whom I have a lifetime of happy memories. An “old school” journalist who had a a significant career as a young man in Africa, he devoted his working life in Bord Failte to introducing the best of Ireland to the international media with enduring results. He was universally popular, had a sharp mind and wide interests which made him engaging company, even at our recent “coffee and chat” get together. As a man who circumnavigated the world in his younger days, Tim, though modest about his achievements, loved the sea and his time working on his boat gave him much pleasure when he retired. Simply put, Tim Magennis was special. Fair winds, old friend. You did your country proud and will be greatly missed.
— James Larkin
Lord rest dear Tim and sincere condolences to his family who he loved dearly.
I was lucky enough to count Tim as a great colleague and dear friend for more than half a century. He found good in everyone and was always in the best of humour and full of interesting stories and personal anecdotes drawn from his fascinating life.
I will miss our get-togethers with Tim and James when we reminisced about the good old days in Bord Fáilte’s Publicity Department 50 years ago. At our last one, a couple of months ago, we said we would meet up again before Christmas; how right Tim was when he said that was leaving it a bit too long.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh d’anam Tim.

Dear Kira, what a lovely picture of your dad. I got a real sense of celebration at your mums funeral and suspect despite the sadness, that your dad had an equally full life. No doubt you and all of Tim's extended family will celbrate his wonderful life and legacy. RIP. Joshua

I first met Tim in 1978 when I joined the Publicity Department in Bord Failte Baggot Street; over the years I learned so much from him, even to the present day. But I never mastered his knack with a penknife to pare the perfect pencil, a task he was always happy to do. In those days one wrote draft letters and press trips in pencil, something I still do. There are so many memories swirling in my head of those years. Thank you Tim and may your beloved family cherish your memory, and your beloved Anne and those gone ahead greet you. Rest well dear man.
— Letitia Pollard, Dun Laoghaire

My condolences to Kiera, Sophia and Kate and to their families. Tim was a brilliant colleague over many years radiating erergy and enthusiasm for his work in communications and public relations. He had a profound love of the island of Ireland, its people, its coastline and particularly for sailing. Being a very minor sailor in my youth I understood that freedom and energy he took from the marine environment, its diversity and nature that really excited him and infected his colleagues and friends when he spoke of it. His positive personality forged a wide circle of friends who will rightly mourn his passing.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis. Ni bheidh a leithéid ann arís.
