Tony and I joined CH &Co on the same day and qualified similarly 3 years later on the same day. We worked together in Shelbourne Road for many years and it was obvious to all that he was “way ahead “ of the rest of us. However, being the person Tony was he wore his learning very lightly. Our career paths parted but whenever we met subsequently, whether personally or professionally, our conversation resumed as if we were still in the group room in Shelbourne Road.To describe Tony as a gentleman is to grossly understate his personality.I can only wish that Tony has found the contentment and peace of mind he richly deserves. I cannot remotely conceive of the anguish his family are feeling at his loss and all I can do is convey my utter sympathy to you at such dreadful time.
Ar dheis De go raibh a anam!

I'm very sorry to hear the sad news about Tony's passing. I knew him from PwC and he was a person that was truly larger than life. Tony always had a moment and a kindly supportive word for everyone in the firm, even those like myself that he wouldn't have worked closely with. Like all larger than life characters, he seemed eternal, so I am shocked as well as saddened to hear today about his passing, Thinking about Tony now, It seems as if I can clearly hear his infectious laugh, and he will surely be sorely missed by everyone he touched as well as his family who must be devastated by losing him far too early.
My sincere condolences to his family, may he rest in peace

I was really saddened to hear of Tony's death. As many have already said he had the brightest of smiles that would light up any occasion. I think he learnt it following a spell in PwC Japan. My condolences to Mary and the Weldon family.

My deepest condolences to the Weldon family on the sad passing of Tony.

It was a privilege and a pleasure to work for Tony and I have fond memories of our days in Wilton Place. Tony never asked for much by way of admin support, but we did occasionally reschedule review meetings with overly-enthusiastic audit managers, always using the same cover story, “Tony can’t meet you today, he’s attending a course ⛳️ ”.

Rest in Peace Tony.

I met Tony on my first day in O’Connells School in 1961 when we were just turning 7 and went with him right through school. In a very talented class he stood out as a very bright guy (often top of the class) and a very hard worker. I was fortunate to subsequently deal with him professionally when he was in PWC and he was always a thorough gentleman who cared about his clients and had great integrity. My heart goes out to Mary and the family and they have my deepest sympathy.
