Blessings on my uncle Willie's soul. He was pure good in all my experience of him. I used to visit himself and my aunt Kitty on his farm and he was a true gent in every way. I loved his dry sense of humour. I'm sorry I didn't make more of an effort to stay in touch. Rest in peace, uncle Willie. You are with Kitty again now.

We have been close friends and neighbours of Willie for more than forty years. He and his late wife Kitty were the first people to welcome us to Newtown.
We were privileged that they were our neighbours. They were like grandparents to our children, taking part in all our family events. So many wonderful memories.
Willie was a man of old world values, honesty and generosity, a man who lived in harmony with nature. The wellbeing of his animals was so important to him.
He was a man of wisdom and wit. As someone said earlier, he had a great turn of phrase.
He wore his heart on his sleeve when it came to hurling matches. The banter and craic we will never forget.
Willie McGregor was as much part of Newtown as the River Shannon, where he spent many a happy hour fishing.
May his spirit always shine brightly on Newtown.
