William (Willie) Cooney

One of the nicest and jolliest people I've ever come in contact with. RIP Mr Cooney. My condolences to Aoife and Myra.

Willie’s passing is a huge loss. We are heartbroken and will miss him greatly. He truly was a special part of our lives and we will remember him every day. Myra and Aoife are in our hearts and prayers at this time.

Devastated to hear of Willies passing. Sincere condolences to Myra, Aoife and family. I have known Willie since schooldays in Haddington Road, the electrical industry, junior football and our shared love of Rovers. Willie was a great, great man and Tallaght Stadium will not be the same without him.

I was so sorry to hear of Willie's passing. He was a huge part and influence in my football life for a very long time. He didn't always pick me to play but Willie being Willie you couldn't hold it against him. He did tell me he has had many discussions still about those days. Such a positive person and so passionate about football. I met him at my mother in laws funeral in January and he was in great form as always. He will be sadly missed. RIP Willie

I was fortunate enough to have Willie and Myra visit me in the UK and I remember how much we all laughed and the jokes he made about trying not to fall down my winding staircase!!

We also had some great interesting chats about life.

He will be sadly missed by all of us, but will be getting a wonderful welcome in Heaven.

Willie was the definition of a true gent. He always spoke with such class and passion and I know he will be dearly missed. Grateful to have shared a glass and a tune with him.

Sincerest condolences to Myra, Aoife and all of Willie's family and friends. Willie was a long time friend of my Dad, Paul, and a great friend indeed, particularly after the death of my Mam. In more recent times, we were lucky to meet and spend time with Willie - the chats and laughs were many, be it about books, sport, travel, music or life in general. Willie always had such a genuine interest in everyone and everything. His positivity was infectious and he always spoke with great pride and love for Myra and Aoife. I hope the happy memories bring comfort in this difficult time. Little by little, we let go of loss...but never of love. Rest in peace Willie

Willie had a lot of time for my grandparents, Tommy and Maureen Meade. I remember meeting him when my grandad Tommy was in hospital, as we both arrived to visit at the same time and I came away thinking what a lovely conversation we had. We spoke about Myra, Aoife, and his love of travel, he had recently been to Vietnam, if I remember correctly.
