Sending heartfelt condolences to Basils family and friends. Basil was more than just a manager, he was a great friend and a remarkable mentor who inspired us all. His ability to see potential in everyone and his willingness to share his knowledge were invaluable. He was my manager for some time in CMH some years ago and I’ll never forget how he brought music and art in to the unit. A true gentleman with an incredible passion for nursing and mentoring. He had high standards, but always led with kindness, warmth and humour. Basil had time for everyone and spoke often of his beloved South Africa and his dear family. We shared many special moments together in music, and most importantly we shared them with a huge number of those who were patients and staff in the hospital. Deepest condolences to Basil's wife and family. I had many chats with Basil while we were colleagues in the CMH. He always spoke with pride about his family and worked hard to help his children achieve their dreams. Although I have not seen him for the last decade since my retirement I am very sorry he is no longer with us. RIP.

Words can not express the saddness at Basil's untimely passing, a born leader, a gentle soul, his many great loves , love for life , his profession, music , colleagues and friends , but most of all for his family, he never failed to bring some sense of pride in daily conversation of his wife and children , his inclusivity to all he met , his thirst for knowledge and his well known phase striving for excellence, encouragement to all, more than a mentor , a true leader
