Maureen Michna (neé Hourigan) passed peacefully from her family, aged 93, at Beechfield Manor Nursing Home, Shankill, on 8th January 2025. A beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Maureen enjoyed a long and happy life, moving from Ennis to London and then to Dublin in her latter years following the death of Gerhard, her loving husband of 46 years. She had a lively mind and keen wit, and as a retired Librarian was an avid reader, an enthusiastic gardener who inherited a deep love for nature and poetry from her parents, while always carrying a deep appreciation for music from her days in the Ennis Pro-Cathedral Choir.
Later in life, she felt blessed as Oma Maureen to see her grandchildren grow and pass their various milestones and was overjoyed to meet her first great-granddaughter born three weeks before Maureen found her “holy rest and peace at the last”. Maureen will be greatly missed and her memory cherished by her daughter, Rose-Mary, her sons Bernhard and Finbarr (Barry), their respective spouses Dan, Vanessa and Lisa, her six grandchildren, and friends and family in Ireland, Germany and the UK.
“Those we love may pass away but their love remains with us.”
